Weather synopsis: Mon, Oct. 7

HALIFAX – Monday morning is expected to be mostly cloudy with a few spotty, isolated showers moving east through the Maritimes. Two to four millimetres of precipitation is expected throughout New Brunswick with a 40 to 60 per cent chance of showers or drizzle in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Showers will become more widespread later Monday afternoon.

A strong trough of low pressure will cross the region Monday night bringing periods of rain and wind gusting from 30 to 60 kilometres an hour. Northern and central parts of New Brunswick (Edmundston, Fredericton, Campbellton) will see 15 to 25 mm. Areas south of Fredericton (St. Stephen, Saint John) will see about 10 to 15 mm and the eastern half of the province (Bathurst, Miramichi, Moncton) will see five to 10 mm.

Rain will begin to push into southwestern Nova Scotia overnight. Expect two to four millimetres of precipitation in Yarmouth, Digby, Shelburne and Queens County after midnight. Periods of rain will continue throughout the day Tuesday for much of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

High pressure will build Tuesday into Wednesday and is expected to remain in the region through to the end of the work week. At this point the outlook looks promising for Thanksgiving weekend.
