Calgary “Freeman” Mario Antonacci delivers confusing rant to judge in Montreal court

MONTREAL — 48 year-old Mario Antonacci arrived at the Montreal Courthouse bright and early Thursday morning.

It was his second stop in Quebec in the last 24 hours.

The man, who is also known as Andreas Pirelli, landed at Montreal’s Trudeau Airport Wednesday afternoon.

A Montreal Police spokesperson told Global News he was escorted by two detectives on a commercial flight from Calgary.

Antonacci was arrested last week in Calgary.

He was at the centre of a strange rental controversy.

On Thursday morning, crown prosecutor Jacques Belanger informed the court Antonacci was wanted in not one, but two criminal cases in Montreal.

In 2007, he allegedly assaulted his former landlady Jocelyne Malouf.

A year later, in September 2008, police say he threatened, harrassed, and robbed three of his neighbours on Cadillac Street.

He’s facing nine charges in that file.

Antonacci skipped town sometime in the spring of 2010 in the middle of one his trials.

In court Thursday, the so-called “Calgary Freeman” went on a confusing rant.  He told Justice Serge Boisvert the person in the prisoner’s box is not really him.

“The body is not here”, he told the court.  “You cannot see him.  It’s a living force, a living soul, a spiritual force.  It is not the body.  He is never born.”

He spoke for about one minute before court officials led him away.

Antonacci will remain detained until his court appearance Monday and the crown has objected to his immediate release on bail.
