With three days until they kick off their 44th NHL season, the Vancouver Canucks have made their final cuts to their 23-man roster.

Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk, both drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft, have been sent back to their junior clubs.

Jeremy Welsh, who along with Zac Dalpe was acquired by the Canucks in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend, have been assigned to Vancouver’s AHL team, the Utica Comets.

Earlier in the day, the Canucks also picked up defencemen Ryan Stanton on the waiver wire. Stanton, a 24-year-old from St. Albert, Alberta, has played in the Chicago Blackhawks’ minor league system for the last four years.

The moves bring Vancouver to the 23-man limit before they begin the 2013-2014 season Thursday night against the San Jose Sharks.
