In response to the overcrowding at the RCMP depot facilities, construction on a new dormatory began on Monday.
The dorm is the first of three new dormatories for the RCMP academy.
"It will also be the front door for the academy as our reception centre, security and access control facility will also be located in the same building," Sgt. Steve Smedley said. Smedley was on sight today speaking to Global News.
The dorm is expected to house more than 200 cadets and will cost around $25 million. Currently, some cadets sleep in trailers.
The building is set to be completed in 18 months.
