New crew ready to blast off to space station

TORONTO – The International Space Station is going to be a busy place this week.

On Wednesday, three new crew members of Expedition 37-38 will blast off from the Baikanor Cosmodrome in Khazakstan at 4:58 p.m. EDT.

The Soyuz spacecraft will carry NASA astronaut Michael Hopkins and Russian cosmonauts Oleg Khotov and Sergey Ryazanskiy to the ISS where they will join the current Expedition 37 crew.

Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin, and flight engineers Karen Nyberg and Luca Parmitano have been on the station since May.

Meanwhile, the delay of the private cargo ship Cygnus, means that it will arrive at the space station no earlier than Saturday.

Cygnus, a new private cargo ship by company Orbital Sciences Corporation, experienced a data error before it was set to arrive at the ISS on Sunday.

It will deliver 589 kg of cargo to the crew, including food and clothing.
