Luge, skeleton, and bobsleigh events are held at the Whistler Sliding Center. The new 12,000-seat venue was built between 2005 and 2007 at a cost of $104.9 million. Originally set to cost $55 million, this venue was one of those hit hard by the rising cost of concrete, steel and labour. Vanoc’s contractors worked hard to have the facility finished by the end of 2007 and, on Dec. 18, the first tests were performed by Canadian bobsleigh champions Pierre Lueders and brakeman Justin Kripps.
