REGINA – Highway #22 between Southey and Earl Gray is getting a much-needed rebuild.
Work will begin this week on a two-year project to upgrade around 15 kilometers of Highway #22 from the junction of Highway #6 to Earl Grey.
“The province of Saskatchewan is investing nearly $14 million to upgrade Highway 22,” Last Mountain-Touchwood MLA Glen Hart said on behalf of Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris.

“A rebuilt Highway 22 will be safer, more reliable and ensure the communities in this area and the local economy can continue to grow and prosper,” Earl Grey Mayor Denise Krochak said.
Construction on the highway will begin in two phases; the first phase will see five kilometers from Highway #6 to the grain terminal paved with asphalt and concrete. It will be a primary weight highway able to handle the heaviest trucks allowed on Saskatchewan roads.
The second phase, expected to begin in 2014, will see the 10 kilometers to Earl Grey upgraded to a secondary weight standard using a thinner type of pavement called asphalt seal.
In 2012 the stretch of highway was voted “Saskatchewan’s Worst Road” by CAA members.
