MONTREAL – The Montreal fire department has confirmed that a man has been rescued after being electrocuted while working in an elevated work platform in the Plateau.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Mentena and Bousquet Streets.
The man was repointing the brick on a building along Mentena Street, when the basket crane got too close to Hydro-Quebec wires.
Fanny Geoffrion, a spokesperson for the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CSST) told Global News that the worker touched a 14,000 volt medium-tension wire and was electrocuted. He was transferred to hospital.

“We are concerned for his life,” she said.
She also noted that it is up to the employer to ensure that safe working conditions, and the distance between the workers and medium-tension wires should be three metres.
Unfortunately, in this instance, the team did not maintain the correct distance, and the worker was electrocuted.
“Too often, these types of accidents are fatal.”
There are two CSST inspectors at the site in order to determine the exact cause of the accident.
