RCMP have busted a South Okanagan marijuana grow operation they believe was taking advantage of connections to government issued medical permits.

The Penticton drug squad had a warrant to search a property on Allendale Lake Road in Okanagan Falls Monday, finding more than the medicinal grow-op permits allowed.

They found 200 pot plants the size of small Christmas trees, 13 kg (30 pounds) of drying marijuana bud, a loaded .357 magnum handgun at the residence along with a loaded .30/30 caliber rifle.

The police descended on the property after information that the “˜medicinal’ permits held by three people had tenuous links to the operation.

Police found two other men, 39 and 40, inside an out building where the grow-op was found and arrested both.

They were later released to appear in court in April to face anticipated charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Production of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Restricted Weapon and Unsafe Storage of Firearms.
