Suspicious death investigation underway west of Edmonton

The Alberta RCMP major crimes unit is investigating a suspicious death west of Edmonton.

The investigation began after a man’s body was discovered in the area of Range Road 271 between Highway 16A and Highway 628 in Spruce Grove, Alta.

RCMP said they were called to the area around 8 a.m. by EMS, who had found a man lying in the ditch. The man was declared dead by EMS.

In a news release just before 10 a.m., Parkland RCMP said the area was blocked off due to a police investigation and asked drivers to avoid the area.

On Tuesday afternoon, RCMP said the death was considered suspicious.

Members of the RCMP major crimes and forensic identification units remained on scene Tuesday afternoon.

An autopsy will be completed by the Edmonton medical examiner’s office.

The RCMP is looking for anyone who might have dashcam footage from the area between 6 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday. Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area is also asked to contact RCMP at 825-220-2000. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
