Honoring fallen Saskatchewan soldiers

REGINA- Saturday was a day of remembrance.

Master Corporal Bryon Greff and Master Corporal Allan Stewart were added to the plaque located at the Saskatchewan War Memorial at the Legislative Building in Regina.

Nearly 200 people gathered to honor their achievements.

“We’re fortunate to have this memorial. It’s the only one in Canada that includes the names of every provincial person who has died in war,” said Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield.

Family members and officials also laid six wreaths in tribute to all Saskatchewan veterans.

“I just feel very proud of Byron. He’s looking down from heaven at us and he’s smiling, I know he is,” said Candy Greff whose son was killed in a suicide attack on a military convoy in Kabul in 2011. The 26 year old was from Swift Current.

Many of the people at  the memorial said it was also a way to show others the freedoms they enjoy are due to brave young men and women who gave their lives for their country.
