MONTREAL – There will not be a trial in the case of the 12-year-old Dorval teen accused in the shooting death of his older brother.
In a surprise move late last week, Global News has learned the teen pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including criminal negligence causing death, armed robbery and a count of robbery.
The shooting dates back to late January when the boy, who was 12-years-old at the time, was inside a bedroom with his 16-year-old brother and shot him in the head.
He was reportedly about two feet away when he fired the gun.
The boy, who can’t be named because he’s a minor, is facing a total of seven charges but the crown prosecutor agreed to a plea bargain which saw the manslaughter charge get dropped.
The two counts of armed robbery were in relation to a hold up at a convenience store three weeks before the death of his brother.
The crown claimed he used the same gun.
A manslaughter conviction for a young offender carries a three-year sentence.
Both the defence and the crown will be back in court on September 23, for sentencing arguments.
