Edmonton man in hospital after attack

EDMONTON – A seriously-wounded man showed up in the Royal Alexandra Hospital’s emergency room Wednesday night after police say he was attacked outside his north-end home.

The bleeding victim was driven to hospital by his friend just after 10 p.m., in a white work van with its back window smashed in.

Police said the man was attacked behind his home on 127 Street off 129 Avenue after he heard or saw something odd and went outside to check on the van.

“It appears he was attacked in the process of investigating his vehicle being broken into or damaged,” Staff Sgt. Regan James said.

The van’s back window had a hole the size of a beach ball in it.

The victim, said to be in his mid-20s, underwent emergency surgery that was expected to take upwards of four hours. Two members of the forensics unit arrived at the hospital and they took pictures of the van before it was towed out of the bay.

Meanwhile, officers searched the rear of the duplex on 127 Street just north of 128 Avenue and spoke with neighbours. James said they had no one in custody and could not release a description of their suspect.

Police were unable to speak to the victim before he went into surgery.
