TORONTO – Gia Milani, who wrote and directed one of Cory Monteith’s last movies, has won an award for the project at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Fredericton-born filmmaker took the Grolsch Film Works Discovery Award on Monday for her debut feature, All the Wrong Reasons.
The award comes with a $10,000 cash prize to be put toward Milani’s next project.

Victoria-raised Monteith, who died in July, stars in the film as an ambitious department store manager.
Karine Vanasse plays his wife, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, and Emily Hampshire co-stars as a woman he gets involved with.
The film, shot in Halifax last year, premiered at the festival on Sunday.
The Discovery Award “celebrates the human story behind first-feature filmmaking and spotlights the tremendous passion, diligence and dedication required to get a film made.”
All 28 directors with a film in the festival’s Discovery Programme this year were considered for the award.
Milani was selected by the Grolsch Film Works Discovery Award jury, which included last year’s winner, Rola Nashef.
