Man killed in collision on Anthony Henday

EDMONTON- One person is dead after a single vehicle collision on Anthony Henday Drive just before noon Saturday.

Police say the vehicle was exiting Gateway Boulevard, heading east onto the Anthony Henday when the accident happened. The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a pole just before 91st Street. Officers say the vehicle then started on fire.

“We had witnesses on scene just after it occurred who attempted to help the driver of the vehicle and were unsuccessful in helping him or her, in getting them out,” Constable Scott Deputat with the Edmonton Police Service said at the scene.

Shortly after speaking to police on scene, EPS confirmed the driver of the car was a male, but his name was not released.

The collision is still under investigation.

“At this point we are looking to determine why the vehicle left the road – whether it was driver or mechanical error, a medical episode, distracted driving, speed, or some other factor,” said Sgt. Gener Alvarado with EPS.
