TORONTO — Benedict Cumberbatch arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) with a lot of buzz around him — and on Thursday most of it was about his hair.

The 37-year-old British star was at TIFF sporting slicked back hair that appeared to be shorter and less curly than in recent weeks.

Minutes after @GlobalJRK tweeted a photo of Cumberbatch arriving at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, fans reacted to the new ‘do.

“HAIRCUT(E),” exclaimed @HolmesMyJohn.

Others seemed to miss the Sherlock star’s longer locks.

“OMG his hair! Dead!,” tweeted @Cumberbatchme. Added @BakerStBabes: “RIP SherCurls, may you twist and diffuse in the great beyond.”

@LacyMB tweeted: “When Benedict Cumberbatch cuts off the #Sherlock curls, it’s depressing. Fluffy = not the same.”

“I’m in love with it,” wrote @MuchAdoAboutBC. “But I did take a moment of silence for the curls.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

@annabanana_its shared: “I rather like short hair on him … shows off those lovely cheekbones.”

“OMG. He has already become Turing’s hair!!! Sexy,” tweeted @2Gsahoko, referring to reports Cumberbatch is set to portray Alan Turing in the biopic The Imitation Game.

“Loving the new ‘do,” opined @ReadingBennie.

Cumberbatch arrived at his hotel just minutes after director Guillermo del Toro was seen leaving — avoiding a potentially awkward situation. The actor recently pulled out of Crimson Peak, a thriller del Toro is about to start shooting in Toronto with Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam.
