Blue-green algae sparks advisory for Alberta reservoir

CALGARY- Those who live near or visit Twin Valley Reservoir have been warned to stay away, after blue-green algae was found.

Blue-green algae can produce a toxin that can cause serious illness in both animals and humans who come into contact with the water.

As a result, people are being warned not to drink the water, or let their pets near it. Do not swim or wade in it, avoid contact with the water and limit consumption of whole fish or fish trimmings that come from the reservoir.

The advisory is in effect until further notice.

Twin Valley Reservoir is located near Vulcan.
