Nomination Day approaches for candidates in Edmonton’s election

EDMONTON – Fall is approaching, students are back at school, and Edmontonians are getting ready for the October 2013 Civic Election. Nomination Day for candidates running in the election is Monday, September 23.

The official list of those running for mayor, city councillors, and school board trustees will be posted the next day, September 24.

The City of Edmonton encourages all prospective candidates to be aware of the nomination requirements  and legislation and bylaws  concerning elections before Nomination Day.

Mayoral candidates have to collect at least 100 signatures from eligible voters who support their nomination. City councillor and school board trustee candidates have to collect at least 25 signatures from residents in their ward who support their candidacy.

Edmonton Elections will be hosting a series of City Council forums for all candidates between September 30 and October 10.

Three forums will be held for mayoral candidates and one forum for each of the 12 wards. The forums will be webcast live by Edmonton Elections.

School board trustee candidates will take part in individual video interviews which are posted online.
