Sen. John McCain has proved that some social media controversies can be diffused with just 140 characters of sarcasm.
During Tuesday’s hearing on possible military intervention in Syria, the Arizona Senator was photographed playing poker on his iPhone.
McCain was snapped “passing the time” in the three-hour hearing by Washington Post photographer Melina Mara.
After the photo made the rounds on social media, McCain responded with a tweet poking fun at the frenzy the photograph stirred up and adding that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Syria had indeed exceeded three hours.

McCain has been an outspoken advocate of intervention in Syria, but said he doesn’t support a new Senate resolution that would permit a “limited and tailored” military mission against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime.
