DeLaet comes up short at Deutsche Bank Championship

BOSTON – He may be the best golfer on the PGA Tour who hasn’t won a tournament.

Weyburn’s Graham DeLaet came up short again, this time at the Deutsche Bank Championship as he continues to search for his first PGA tour win.

DeLaet shot a final round 69, sinking a birdie on the 18th hole to clinch third place on his own at 18 under par and earning $544,000.

He was tied for third going into the final round after shooting a 62 in the third round.

DeLaet also clinched a spot on the President’s Cup team, only the second Canadian to make the team.

Mike Weir last represented Canada in 2009.

DeLaet also moves up to fifth place in the FedEx Cup standings with two more tournaments to go. He is the only golfer in the top five without a tour win this year.

The top 70 players in the Fed Ex Cup hit the links starting Sept. 12 for the BMW Championship where DeLaet will continue to search for that elusive first victory.

Last week, he came up one stroke short at The Barclays, the opening tournament in the FedEx Cup.
