On Monday morning, Waterloo Regional Police said a child had been transported to hospital after being struck by a truck in Kitchener.
Police announced the incident on Twitter, saying it occurred near the intersection of Ottawa Street North and Nottingham Avenue.
On Monday evening, police provided further details on the incident, describing it as a hit-and-run collision.
They said the truck was making a left onto Ottawa Street North from Highway 7/8 at around 10:30 a.m. when it hit a young child on a bicycle.

Police said the driver failed to remain at the scene of the incident.
They also said paramedics transported the child to an area hospital with minor injuries.
