UPDATE: Two teens killed, two hurt after vehicle flips into ditch in Hants County

ARDOISE, N.S. – Two teens are dead and another two are injured after a vehicle left the road and crashed in Ardoise, near Windsor.

Kevin Singer lives on Highway 1 beside where the crash occurred. He heard a loud noise around 1:30 a.m. Monday and ran outside to see what had happened.

“I could tell it was a car that had gone off the road. I quickly got dressed, ran out with the flashlight and ran up the road to see where they were,” Singer said.

Singer describes the weather conditions as dark and foggy at the time.

Singer, who describes the stretch of road as dangerous and prone to accidents, says the scene was hard to take in.

“They had found a girl in the bushes outside the car and another boy outside in a different spot in the bushes.”

RCMP say the vehicle left the road and clipped a power pole before it overturned in the ditch.

The skid marks from the vehicle were still clearly visible Monday afternoon. Debris, including a red t-shirt, could be seen in the ditch.

A 19-year-old man who was driving the vehicle and a 16-year-old girl who was a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 19-year-old man and 16-year-old girl sustained non life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined but alcohol and speed have not been ruled out.

A memorial to the deceased teens with white crosses, a teddy bear and flowers was set up along Highway 1.

Friends of the driver stopped by the crash site to pay their respects but declined to speak to Global News on-camera.

“It just happened. The emotions are still raw,” one man said.

RCMP have not yet released the names of the teens. They are, however, urging people take extra caution on the roads.

“This is another tragic event that’s happened on the highways in Nova Scotia this year. Folks just need to drive a little more cautiously, be defensive and take the steps to make sure they get there alive,” said Staff Sgt. Dan Austin with the Windsor RCMP.
