Superstar golfer Tiger Woods has released a statement apologizing to his family for "transgressions" following the release of a voicemail to US Weekly by a reality TV contestant and cocktail waitress who claims to have engaged in a 31-month affair with the married 33-year-old.
"Hey, it’s Tiger," says the voice on the message. "I need you to do me a huge favour. Can you please take your name off your phone? My wife went through my phone and may be calling you. If you can, please take your name off that and just have it as a number. Just have it as your telephone number. Okay? You’ve got to do this for me. Huge. Quickly. Bye."
The voice has not been confirmed as being that of Woods, but he quickly released a statement on his website stating "I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family."
US Weekly says the call was made to Los Angeles cocktail waitress Jaimee Grubbs on November 24. Grubbs has appeared on the VH1 reality TV show Tool Academy. Wikipedia describes the show as "a competitive reality television show featuring ‘unsuspecting bad boys’ who have been sent to ‘relationship boot camp.’"
Late Wednesday, Life and Style Magazine put Woods deeper into the rough when they alleged Kalika Moquin, a marketing manager of the Las Vegas nightclub The Bank, has also been involved with the sporting star. Moquin has refused comment. She is listed as one of the "31 Most Influential People In Vegas Nightife by a local media outlet.
Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree on November 27. Speculation has been rife that Woods was involved in a marital dispute that saw his wife, Elin Nordegren, attack his vehicle with a golf club after scratching his face over the details of an alleged affair that had been published by the National Enquirer a few days earlier.
The Woods family denied the story, stating that his wife had acted ‘heroically’ by breaking the window of the car after Woods had hit a tree, so she could drag him to safety. Cynics began poking holes in that story almost immediately.
US Weekly reports the pair met in a Las Vegas nightclub in 2007 and began an affair. Grubbs has reportedly supplied over 300 voicemails to back her claims.
Woods has been fined $164 for careless driving and may lose four points off his driving record. Florida police are not investigating any claims of domestic violence surrounding the incident.
