Claude Carignan named leader of Government in Senate

MONTREAL – Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Friday he was appointing Claude Carignan as leader of the Government in the Senate.

“I am confident that Senator Carignan has the experience, dedication and respect required to increase transparency and accountability in the Senate,” said Harper.

Carignan, got his start in politics in 2000 as the mayor of Saint-Eustache.

He was first appointed to the Senate in August 2009 and then as Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate in May 2011.
