More than eight months after the ‘ice bombs’ or large chunks of ice and snow fell from the cables of the new $3 billion Port Mann bridge, the public is finally learning how much all the damage cost.
“In total, we saw the claims settle for around $400,000. While that is not an insignificant amount of money, bear in mind for 350 claims, that is about $1,100 each,” says Adam Grossman with ICBC. “So for windshield and glass damage, that is pretty consistent with what we normally see.”

Once those are complete, it may try to recoup the money.
“$400,000 from one event is unfortunate. Thankfully it does not happen very often, but in the overall cost scheme, it is not a significant amount,” says Grossman.
ICBC also says the event won’t have any impact on the insurance rates of British Columbians.
