Fatal accident closes road in Chilliwack

UPDATE: The deceased has now been identified as Adam Burchart.

A road in Chilliwack is closed after a fatal accident that happened at 11:30 p.m. last night.

RCMP says four teenagers were riding in a truck near Boundary Road and Number Three Road, when an 18-year-old man died after falling from the back of the moving vehicle.

Two teens were in the truck and two were riding in the back, when the young man somehow fell from the truck and suffered extensive injuries, police say. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Chilliwack, is in custody and will be appearing in Chilliwack Provincial Court this afternoon. The recommended charge is dangerous peration of a motor vehicle causing death.

The driver, two passengers and the victim are all Chilliwack residents. The name of the deceased teen has not been released.

The cause of the accident is still unclear and an investigation is underway.

The road was closed for much of the night.
