Police review security footage after woman’s nose severed in attack

WATCH: A woman was left seriously injured after an attacker severed her nose at Yonge/Dundas square. Lama Nicolas reports. 

TORONTO – Police are continuing their investigation after an elderly woman had her nose severed off when she was attacked in downtown Toronto Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. after the 76-year-old victim stepped off a TTC streetcar and into an elevator at Yonge-Dundas Square.

Police say a man attacked the woman while she was inside to go down to the subway, cutting off her nose.

The man fled the scene and is described only as being 40 to 60 years old, and five-foot-six to five-foot-eight inches tall.

Investigators say they are looking through security footage to determine if the suspect can be identified.

Anyone with information about the attack is urged to call police.
