MIDDLE SACKVILLE, N.S. – A family home in Middle Sackville, N.S. was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.
Fire officials were called at approximately 1 a.m. to the fire on Lakecrest Drive. When they arrived, the back of the home was engulfed in flames.
“When our unit had arrived the fire had spread up the back of the house and had already taken hold of the attic space,” said Steve Auton of the Halifax Regional Fire Service. “The initial attacks were unsuccessful in knocking it down and basically we ended up with a total loss fire.”

The family escaped safely, but the home was totally destroyed. Dylan Forsyth has lived at the home with his parents for the past 11 years. Forsyth was working at Walmart when he heard the bad news.
“My manager called me up and told me to come up front I talked to her,” he said. “The manager told me my house burned down and somebody was coming to get me … I didn’t believe it till I came home and went down the street and it was just up in flames.”
Neighbours say the heard a loud popping noise before seeing flames break out. Fire officials suspect that the fire was caused by the explosion of a barbecue propane tank.
Investigators are expected at the scene Monday morning to determine what started the fire.
