TORONTO – Up to 35,000 kindergarten students across Ontario will be enrolled in full-day learning next fall, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said Tuesday.
Full-day learning for all four- and five-year-olds will be phased in by 2015. Once fully implemented it will cost $1.5 billion annually.
Students will be taught by a teacher and an early childhood educator with an average of 26 kids in a class.
Parents may also enrol their child in before- and after-school programs for a "reasonable" fee.
Schools that will offer full-day early learning next September will be announced in the new year based on recommendations from school boards.
