UPDATED: Fire destroys buildings at Cape Breton fishplant

ARICHAT, N.S. – Authorities say a fire broke out at Premier Seafoods in Arichat, N.S., early Friday.

Company president Edgar Samson says the ground fish facility and retail market were destroyed in the blaze.

He says two other facilities were not affected.

There are no reports of any injuries.

RCMP say they received a call about the fire shortly after 1 a.m.

Fire crews from four local communities were involved in fighting the blaze.

The company says it employs more than 200 people in the peak of the season, but those buildings damaged by the fire employ between 60 and 70 workers.
