Peel Regional Police say a woman has been charged with 11 counts of failing to provide the necessities of life after an investigation at a Brampton long-term care home.
According to officers, the investigation at Holland Christian Homes Grace Manor near McLaughlin Road South and Steeles Avenue West began earlier in June after they received complaints that medication was allegedly administered to patients not as prescribed at the home.
Officers alleged 11 residents of the home with varying cognitive abilities were victimized, but the exact details surrounding the incidents and the medications weren’t released on Sunday.
Investigators said all of those affected have since been assessed by medical professionals and family members have been notified.
“Our medical director has been active in the care of these residents and was engaged immediately to assess each resident involved in the incident and we can confirm that no residents suffered an adverse event or harm as a result of the alleged actions,” Rawlins said in a statement Sunday evening.
“It is our commitment that every resident enjoys the highest quality of life and enjoyment possible. We rely on our highly trained, professional, and committed staff to provide residents with outstanding nursing, personal care, and daily living activities in a supportive, secure, and caring environment — anything less is just not acceptable.”
He said the company is cooperating with investigations by Peel Regional Police, the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care, and the College of Nurses of Ontario
Meanwhile, 59-year-old Angeline Richardson-Mckenzie of Brampton was charged on Friday. She was scheduled to appear in a Brampton court at a future date.
