Dead babies found in Calgary home were badly decomposed: Sources

CALGARY – The remains of three newborn babies discovered in a Calgary home on Oct. 6 were found in a badly decomposed state, sources tell the Calgary Herald.

Family members made the traumatic discovery of one dead infant’s remains the day after Harsimrat (Simmi) Kahlon was found dead in her northeast basement suite by her common law husband.

The other two infant bodies were discovered hidden in the home by police.

Police said Kahlon, whose Oct. 4 death is not considered foul play, gave birth in 2005 to a healthy baby in a Calgary hospital.

The infants’ deaths are suspicious but police said they have few answers as they await results of DNA tests to learn if the babies are siblings and if Kahlon and her partner are the parents.

They are left with few answers to questions about whether Kahlon was an unwilling mother of unwanted babies, police said.

Her family said they were estranged and hadn’t spoken with Kahlon since she moved out of the extended family’s house in 2005.

Kahlon moved often, living in at least four different rental suites before she was found dead.

Family, friends and neighbours said they have no knowledge of the woman having children. Kahlon grew up in Chandigarh, India, and came to Calgary in 1999.
