Police say a 44-year-old man was shot dead in southeast Vancouver on Friday night.
Vancouver police were called to the area of Kent Avenue and Kerr Street, across the street from Riverfront Park, around 10 p.m.
Officers arrived to find Alvis Anjesh Singh dead in his vehicle, VPD said in a media release.
Investigators believe three suspects fled east on Kent Avenue in a silver SUV.
A torched SUV was located shortly afterward near Sexmith Elementary School near Ontario Street and 59th Avenue. Police believe the vehicle is connected to the shooting.
Police said they have not arrested anyone.
“This definitely was a targeted incident,” Vancouver Police Const. Tania Visintin said, adding Singh was known to police.
“Investigators are still determining if it is part of the current gang conflict. I believe years ago there were some gang ties there.”
Court records show Singh was handed a conditional sentence and 10-year firearms ban on a drug trafficking charge in 2000.
A civil suit filed against him by B.C.’s director of civil forfeiture in March alleged Singh was both “known to associate with members of criminal organizations” and “a known member of a criminal organization.”
Anyone with video shot in the area of Langara Golf Course and Sexmith Elementary School between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday is asked to contact Vancouver police.
