Canada election results: Pierrefonds-Dollard

Liberal candidate Sameer Zuberi is the projected winner in the West Island riding of Pierrefonds-Dollard.

The riding of Pierrefonds–Dollard includes the city of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, as well as the boroughs of L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève Pierrefonds-Roxboro in Montreal.

Longtime Liberal MP Bernard Patry held the seat in Pierrefonds-Dollard from 1993 until 2011, when he was defeated by the NDP’s Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe.

The riding returned to the Liberals in 2015 when Frank Baylis won the seat with 58.7 per cent of the vote. Baylis did not seek re-election in 2019.

Liberal Sameer Zuberi won the seat in the 2019 election with 56.7 per cent of the vote. Zuberi is also a member of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights and the Standing Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations.

According to the 2016 census, the riding has a mix of francophone and anglophone residents, but leans more towards English speakers. Just a little over 53 per cent of respondents said English was their mother tongue, and 33.2 per cent said French was.
