BigBrain: Revolutionizing the medical world

MONTREAL – June 2013 marked the beginning of a new era; an era of true technological advancements in the scientific community.

A team of researchers at the Montreal Neurological Institute and the German Forschungszentrum Jülich have created the BigBrain, a high-resolution 3D digital atlas of the human brain.

A member of the team, Dr. Alan Evans, joined The Morning News to explain just what exactly the BigBrain is.

“They can, essentially, replace the paper atlas with this digital one” said Dr. Evans.

With over 1 terabyte, or 1,000 gigabytes, of data, Dr. Evans compared the new technology to the upgrading of older line maps to Google satellite images.
