NDP Romeo Saganash held the seat from 2011 to 2019, when he did not seek re-election.
Sylvie Bérubé of the Bloc Québécois won the seat in 2019 with 36.1 per cent of the vote. She is the vice-chair of the standing committee on Indigenous and northern affairs.
The riding has an Aboriginal population of 38 per cent, with 22.8 per cent being First Nations and 13.8 per cent being Inuk (Inuit).
