SASKATOON – Summer is typically a busy travel season for Saskatoon’s John G. Diefenbaker International Airport and July was no exception
The Saskatoon Airport Authority (SAA) says passenger traffic last month was 117,500 and an increase of 5.2 per cent over July, 2012.
All travel sectors saw positive growth and the first seven months of 2013 are ahead of last year’s by 3.9 per cent.

Some of the increase can be attributed to the commencement of WestJet’s Encore service with additional daily flights to Calgary and Air Canada adding capacity for flights to Toronto.
With the strong local marketplace driving increased traffic, the authority is looking forward to the terminal expansion project which is almost at phase two of construction.
Phase one is expected to open to the public this September with new passenger loading bridges, expanded customs hall and more comfortable waiting areas.
“The construction is far from total completion; however, our intent has always been to manage disruption and bring segments of this project into service at the earliest opportunity,” says Steve Maybury, President and CEO at the SAA.
The $53 million expansion will have a capacity for two million passengers annually and completion is expected in September 2014.
