CALGARY- An investigation has been launched, after a two-alarm fire broke out in the community of Valley Ridge over the weekend.
Firefighters were called to a home along Valley Meadows Close N.W. around 8 a.m. on Sunday, after neighbours noticed smoke.

The fire was burning the main floor and basement, creating problems for crews as the house was locked up tight—creating a potentially hazardous situation.
“Once we started making entry, fresh air gets at it, and that’s when it really gets going, the temperature can be quite high,” explains Battalion Chief Ernie Molineaux. “With proper ventilation techniques, we prevent the backdraft situation from happening.”
Fortunately the fire was knocked down quickly, without spreading to neighbouring homes.
The family that owns the home was on vacation at the time. Fire investigators are now working to determine the cause.
