Sudbury fire kills man and woman, sends 2 more to hospital

SUDBURY, Ont. — Police say there will be an investigation after a fire in Sudbury, Ont., killed two people and sent two more to hospital.

Emergency services were called to a residence early Sunday morning, with four people in the unit where the fire originated.

A 37-year-old man escaped the fire by jumping from a second-storey window.

Police say a 50-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were pronounced dead on the scene.

A 33-year-old woman sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital along with the 37-year-old man.

None of the other building’s other residents sustained any injuries, but a number of them were displaced and the Red Cross is helping them find new accommodations.

Sudbury police, the coroner’s office, and the Ontario Fire Marshal are collaborating on an investigation.
