Henriette downgraded to tropical storm; second storm forming off Mexican coast

TORONTO – The storm in the Pacific Ocean, known as Henriette, has been downgraded to a tropical storm.

Henriette is not a threat to land, though it is southeast of the Hawaiian Islands.

The storm is moving west-southwest at 22 km/h with winds of 120 km/h but is expected to weaken over the next few days.

Meanwhile, another storm is developing off the west coast of Mexico, about 1,287 km southwest of Manzanillo. The National Hurricane Center out of Miami, Florida, estimates that this disturbance has a 50 per cent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours, and a 70 per cent chance of it becoming a tropical cyclone over the next five days.

Another weaker disturbance is located between the two storms, but has only a 30 per cent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone over the next five days.
