It was found Monday by a local resident in Cosens Bay about 30 metres off shore and seven metres deep.

A military dive team from Esquimalt is on its way to verify whether the ordinance is live.

The area was a military training ground during World War Two.  Some shells were filled with cement while others were filled with explosives.

Between 1948 and 1973 nine people have died in the north Okanagan from unexploded ordinances.
