The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is being called in to help look for the cause of a deadly fire on the Hamilton mountain.
Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe says crews were called to a four-storey building at 326 Concession Street right across from Sam Lawrence Park just after 9.30 p.m. Tuesday.
“When the crews entered into the apartment they found a well involved fire in the apartment, heavy smoke, heavy fire,” said Cunliffe.
Cunliffe says firefighters immediately went into search and rescue and were able to pull two occupants from the unit.
Hamilton paramedics say a 58-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries while another man was sent to hospital with no vital signs.
A 55-year-old man was later pronounced dead in hospital.
The victim’s names have not been released.
Most of the damage was contained to the single unit.
The fire department says the blaze was brought under control and no firefighters were injured.
