Human remains discovered following Brighton house fire: Northumberland OPP

Northumberland OPP say human remains were found following a house fire north of Brighton early Friday.

Firefighters from several townships spent hours battling the fire at a home on Old Wooler Road between Lord and Grosjean roads, just north of Brighton.

OPP say that once the fire was extinguished, investigators located human remains inside.

The identity of the victim has yet to be confirmed, OPP said Monday morning.

The OPP’s major crime unit is investigating the incident, along with the Central Region forensic identification services, the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and the Office of the Chief Coroner.

“The scene is currently being held by the OPP as the circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation,” OPP said.
