Clean up and an investigation continues after a train derailed in the area of Haut-Madawaska, N.B., on Tuesday.
In a tweet, New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization said the recovery is ongoing and may take a few days.
Thursday morning, Cpl. Hans Ouellette with the New Brunswick RCMP also told Global News that the area between Riceville Road and Autumn Road remains closed to non-local traffic.
“We continue to monitor the situation and will advise when the road reopens,” Ouellette said.
The incident is being investigated by CN Rail.
RCMP first tweeted about the derailment at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mounties said that as a result of the derailment, Route 120 near Riceville Road in the local service district of Saint-Hilaire, N.B., was closed.
CN Rail confirmed that one of its trains derailed, and said 20 rail cars are confirmed to have derailed in the incident. However, there have been no leaks, fires or injuries.
There’s been no information on what products the train was carrying.
New Brunswick’s EMO said that it is monitoring the incident but that there is no threat to the public.
