The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said at around 8 p.m. Toronto police encountered a vehicle of interest in the parking lot of Church’s Chicken, located in the area of Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough.

The SIU said officers tried to block in the vehicle when it rammed into the police cruisers. Following an interaction one officer fired his gun, the SIU said.

A 31-year-old man was hit by the gunfire, the SIU said.

A Toronto Paramedics spokesperson told Global News a man was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The SIU said two police officers were also taken to hospital for treatment of injuries.

“We had a police investigation that was happening … as a result of the investigation two people were taken into custody. One of the parties did sustain a gunshot wound,” Toronto Police Insp. Andy Singh told reporters.
