Two men arrested, one in hospital after overnight standoff with Vancouver police

Vancouver police have take two men into custody after an overnight standoff in the city’s Downtown Eastside.

Officers were called to a residential building near Powell Street and Princess Avenue around 7 p.m. to reports of a man with a rifle, according to a police media release.

Police said at one point a 32-year-old man exited the building with a gun, and was shot at by a member of the department’s Emergency Response Team.

The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The second suspect, a 31-year-old man, eventually came out of the unit after lengthy negotiations with police.

Police are recommending firearms charges against both men.

The Independent Investigations Office, which probes any situation involving serious harm during an interaction with police, will also investigate.
