Tropical Storm Flossie making landfall in Hawaii

Watch: Hawaiians prepare for tropical storm Flossie

TORONTO – The Hawaiian islands were pounded by tropical storm winds and high surf as Tropical Storm Flossie made landfall Monday morning.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the islands as the storm moves west-northwestward at 26 km/h. Flossie’s maximum sustained winds are 75 km/h with higher gusts. Rainfall of up to 25 cm is forecast for the Big Island.

Flossie is expected to weaken over the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the storm that was Dorian in the Atlantic Ocean may not be over yet. The National Hurricane Center out of Miami, Florida, said that the remnants of Dorian have a 40 per cent chance of redeveloping over the next two days.
