London, Ont., under snowfall warning, 15-20 cm expected

A blanket of snow has fallen in London, Ont., and much of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for London on Sunday, as 15 to 20 cm of snow is expected by Sunday evening.

A winter weather travel advisory is also in effect as poor visibility and slippy road conditions are expected.

Environment Canada says some areas near London may see ice pellets or rain later Sunday afternoon.

John Parsons, the division manager of transportation and roadside operations with the City of London says 27 salt trucks were sent out Sunday morning to clear London’s main roads and bus routes.

“We (also) have some crews downtown in and around Dundas Place and the core area shoveling some intersections.”

Parsons says local sidewalks are not being plowed since at least eight centimetres of snow is needed, “but we are doing a little bit in the core area where the buses are.”

Sunday’s forecast calls for a high of 1 C and a low of -1 C in London.

The forecast calls for a few flurries on Monday, with a high of 4 C and a low of -6 C. Tuesday is set to be cloudy with a high of 0 C.
