Dr. Jennifer Russell, the chief medical officer of health, says all three of the new cases were detected in the Campbellton region.

Russell says 103 cases of COVID-19 remain active in the province.

There are four New Brunswickers in hospital as a result of COVID-19, one of which is in intensive care.

On Sunday, Public Health reported New Brunswick’s third death related to COVID-19.

They said a person in their 60s in the Moncton region (Zone 1) died as the result of underlying health conditions, including COVID-19.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

The individual was among the cases connected with the recent outbreak in Zone 1 and had been a resident at the Manoir-Notre-Dame special care home.

The outbreak at the Moncton facility was declared two weeks ago.

Russell said on Monday that there’s been a decrease in the number of new cases since the zone was moved back to the orange phase.

She said Moncton would be ready to go back to the yellow phase on Thursday, but it’s on cabinet to make that decision.

Russell said on Monday that the same recommendation cannot be made for the Campbellton region.

Last week, Russell declared a second outbreak at a single-room facility, Manoir Du Sagesse in Campbellton.

Premier Blaine Higgs says implementing a mandatory mask order has been successful in encouraging residents to follow public health guidelines.

However, the risk of community spread is still present in Campbellton, the province said.

“We are seeing that people are not following public health guidelines,” Russell said on Monday. “This means we are continuing to see the spread of the disease… This is a huge risk.”

For every confirmed case, there have been 20 contacts and they are all in isolation, Higgs said.

Russell reminded residents of Zone 5 it is their civic duty to protect fellow residents.

Both the Moncton and Campbellton zones remain in the orange level of New Brunswick’s COVID-19 recovery plan.

To date, New Brunswick has confirmed 313 cases of COVID-19 in the province. There have been 207 recoveries from the virus.

Russell also said on Monday all New Brunswickers are encouraged to download the COVID Alert app.
