Car smashes into 3 Edmonton homes in 2 incidents

WATCH ABOVE: There were frightening moments for some Edmontonians living in a northside community Saturday evening. An out-of-control vehicle crashed into three homes while residents were at home. Chris Chacon reports – Oct 18, 2020

A woman was brought to hospital Saturday evening after she drove a car into two homes near 156 Avenue and 84 Street around 7:30 p.m.

Edmonton Police Service officers on scene said while there were people in the homes at the time of the crash, no one other than the driver was injured in the collision.

Both homes and a vehicle in the driveway sustained major damage.

Sue Mai owns one of the homes that was struck. She said her elderly parents were home at the time and her dad is lucky to be alive.

Mai said he typically sits on the living room couch, but when the vehicle tore through, he happened to be in the kitchen.

“My dad was very scared,” Mai said Sunday.

The damaged wall in Mai’s living room was boarded up and the home next to hers was also covered up as it sustained serious damage.

Neighbours say they were frightened for that family’s safety.

“I was shocked and wondering if they were hurt or not,” said Randy Mockford, who lives across the street.

Police confirmed Sunday that the vehicle also hit another residence at 163 Avenue and 87 Street in a separate incident before it crashed into the two other houses.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Charges against the woman are pending, according to police.

The Major Collision Investigations Section was called to the scene.
